Race Results Update #7,  Eagle River, WI

January 18, 2004

Eagle River was our next stop and a record crowd was on hand for the Friday Night Thunder festivities and racing as temperatures were milder that night than in past years.
  Our coverage will begin there.

Friday Night Thunder Sno-Cross action began with the Carlisle Pro 440 final.  Mike Schultz participated in both the 440 and Open classes in the Friday Night Thunder action.  On the start out in front were the AMSOIL teammates DJ Eckstrom and Justin Tate with Tate slotting into 1st with Eckstrom right behind him.  Brad Pitlik fell into the 3rd spot with Mike Schultz giving chase to him.  At the checkered it was Tate, Eckstrom, Pitlik, with Schultz in 4th followed by Judnick and Dolezal rounding out the top six.  In the Carlisle Pro Open again the AMSOIL boys came off the line up front with Tate again slotting into 1st with Eckstrom in pursuit followed by Jerrod Fahrner and Mike Schultz.  On lap three Eckstrom blows by Tate to take over the lead.  By halfway Schultz works by Fahrner to take over the 3rd spot.  At the finish it was Eckstrom, Tate, Schultz, Pitlik, Fahrner and Judnick in the top six.  Mike was running strong all night.

In Semi-Pro 440 Ross Martin was first off the line but Bobby LePage squeaked by him and put several sled lengths between him and Martin until the 9th lap when Martin who had been closing got into LePage spilling him off of his sled putting Martin back in the lead.  Martin went on to win Semi-Pro 440 with LePage taking 2nd after a quick recovery.  Martin also got the lead in Semi-Pro Open with Adam Johnson and Bobby LePage chasing him.  Bobby ran into problems and finished 6th in Semi-Pro Open.  Ross had already won the Semi-Pro 600 class on Saturday with Adam S. Johnson in 2nd on his Polaris followed by Bobby LePage in 3rd.

Continuing with the Sno-Cross championship finals on Sunday, the Pro 440 class went to the line and on green Mike Schultz came out of turn one in 1st place.  Behind him were Tate and Fahrner battling for 2nd.  Schultz opened up a pretty good lead while Tate and Fahrner continued to battle for the second place position.  By lap nine Tate had broken loose from the battle with Fahrner and had his sights set on Schultz.  He chased Schultz for two laps and they went side by side into the last turn where Schultz muscled his sled out first.  Tate rallied pulling along side Schultz coming to the finish line but Schultz found more speed out of a better line and went across the finish line in 1st place.  The results were Mike Schultz taking 1st with Justin Tate, Jerrod Fahrner, Ross Martin, Matt Judnick, Brad Pitlik and DJ Eckstrom finishing in that order.

Mike Schultz struggled off the start in the Pro Open World Championship in Sno-Cross.  The win went to DJ Eckstrom with Justin Tate in 2nd and Brad Pitlik in 3rd.  Rounding out the order was Ross Martin in 4th place, Jerrod Fahrner in 5th with Matt Judnick and Mike Schultz in 6th and 7th.

Mike and Bobby had a very successful weekend at Eagle River.  We now head to the X-Games in Aspen, CO where we will bring you our next race results coverage.  Thank you for your support of North Country Racing.
